Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB)
School for The Center of Quality Excellence
Southern Polytechnic University in Atlanta Georgia
Effectively apply Six Sigma methodology and lead teams through process improvements that identify and eliminate defects and waste and, thereby, improve operational costs and customer satisfaction. This certification is attained by completing the following: (1) three week intensive training program, (2) passing a comprehensive examination including six sigma green belt knowledge, (3) initiate and complete a real world project following the six sigma methodology, (4) create a project binder that documents all aspects of the real world project and the statistical results and finally (5) submit the project binder, present it to the six sigma review board and answer all subsequent questions until completion. The six sigma strategy involves a series of steps that are specifically designed to lead the organization through process improvements. These 6 major steps are: Definition- Identify critical process characteristics. Measurement- document the existing process, perform necessary measurements, and estimate the process capability. Analysis- Analyze of performance measures to determine the amount of improvement that might be possible to make the critical quality characteristic "best in class." Improvement- This phase guides the organization to specific product characteristics that must be improved to achieve the performance and financial goals. Implement - Once this is done the characteristics are diagnosed to reveal the major sources of variation. Key process variables are identified by way of statistically designed experiments. Control- Document and monitor the new process conditions via statistical process control methods.

"I am happy to recommend Doug Winters for employment with your company. I have had the pleasure of working with Doug Winters at The Weather Channel where he provided project management and systems management for our primary systems. Because these systems are so important to our day-to-day operations, Doug's technical abilities and professionalism are greatly appreciated especially under times of pressure and deadlines. We could always count on him to solve challenges and keep us informed no matter what the issue or time of day. His good judgment and problem resolution skills ensure a logical and practical approach to his endeavors. Doug Winters would be an asset to your organization and I am happy to give him my wholehearted endorsement."

Director, Public Information Office
"I wanted to take a minute to personally thank you for the outstanding learning experience you provided to me through the Project Management Course, Part II, at Armstrong Atlantic State University. You took what was otherwise some daunting and highly technical material, (great gobs of it!) and not only made it interesting, but also made it fun. As I mentioned to you, I signed up for the course because I wanted to improve my management skills as the Director of Public Information for the City of Savannah. However, after having completed your course, I am considering a slight change in my career path and am considering following through with becoming certified by PMI. I hope that we cross paths again. Please contact me if there is ever any way I can be of assistance."

"Doug was the instructor for the instructor-led Project Management coursework I used to prepare for taking the PMI - PMP test. He is engaging, personable, and knowledgeable about the topic. In addition, as an instructor, he is quite effective at breaking down complex ideas into easily understood concepts. Part of success as a project manager is self-confidence. Doug is well able to instill that confidence in the class due to his level of experience and his understanding of the composition of each class."
